NEW DELHI, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Parts of India's southern state of Tamil Nadu and its neighboring region of Puducherry have faced incessant rains since Tuesday night, following which all schools and educational institutions were shut, confirmed local officials on the phone on Wednesday.
Trees were uprooted in the Choolaimedu area in Tamil Nadu's capital city of Chennai Tuesday night due to heavy rainfall in the area, said media reports, adding that waterlogging was witnessed in the state's Thoothukudi district due to continuous heavy rains in the city and its suburban areas.
Similarly, severe waterlogging was witnessed in parts of the region of Puducherry.
Schools were also shut in Chennai, Chengalpet, Tiruvallur, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Mayiladuthurai following heavy rains and waterlogging. ■
