JAKARTA, July 3 (Xinhua) -- China-Indonesia joint firm carrying out the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway project, KCIC, handed over on Tuesday a housing cluster to compensate houses and land of Indonesian air force personnel which were used by the project.
The handover was conducted by KCIC President Director Chandra Dwiputra to Indonesian Air Force Chief of Staff Marshall Yuyu Sutisna in Halim Perdanakusumah air base in eastern Jakarta.
"Provision of area for the project was an essential factor. The Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway project is very important for Indonesian people in their milestone to leap up into more modern society with advanced transportation system," Chandra said in his remarks at the handover ceremony.
A total of 408 houses located in five zones were built by KCIC in the air force compound, comprised of houses from various types.
Besides houses, KCIC also built various facilities for the tenants that include worship places, sport halls and meeting halls.
Hadi Tjahjanto, commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, appreciated the houses built by KCIC, saying that they are much more than the original quantity and are in better conditions.
"We get more benefit. The affected houses were only 186 but the ones built to compensate the land were 408 units and in much better condition," Hadi said after inspecting houses in the cluster.
He hoped the air force personnel can maintain the houses, so as to make their families more comfortable to stay in their new houses.
KCIC would use the land where the air force personnel and their families used to live on in the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway project. The site was designated to become the main high-speed railway station in Jakarta.
Meanwhile, a key project to build 1,830 meters of inlet tunnel is making progress. Most of the project would be carried out by local workers, the main and related construction projects will bring thousands of jobs to local people.
After putting into operation, the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway train will run a route of 142 km between the two cities in less than 40 minutes.
