Plenty to talk about after Premier League weekend

LONDON, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Another weekend in the Premier League and another weekend which leaves plenty of issues to be discussed and mulled over; starting of course with the continuing crisis at Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba were already in the spotlight before United were totally outplayed away to West Ham, losing 3-1 on Saturday. Mourinho continued to make friends with his players in his post-game comments in which he questioned their attitude.

The fact he substituted Pogba in the 70th minute of the defeat implies he was signaling the Frenchman as one of those who could have done better and Pogba's excuse to reporters looking for a post-game comment as he made his way to the team bus after the game also said more than enough.

Pogba's comment: "You want me dead?" to reporters with a look to the bus where Mourinho was already waiting, said as much as possible about the atmosphere with just four small words.

With a Champions League game at home to Valencia on Tuesday, Mourinho has the chance to put a temporary patch over the crisis, but defeat to the Spanish club would jeopardize their progress into the last 16 in Europe and deepen the hole the club is apparently in.

Mohamed Salah's start to the season has been disappointing and the Liverpool striker was again below his best as his side claimed a late equalizer to draw 1-1 away to Chelsea at the weekend.

Eden Hazard opened the scoring for Chelsea, but Daniel Sturridge's 88th minute shot from around 30 meters gave Liverpool a point they deserved and means Jurgen Klopp's side have come out of their first major test of the season intact, although if Salah had been in last season's form, maybe they would have won.

Meanwhile David Luiz was excellent for Chelsea, who will also feel their title challenge is maturing under Maurizio Sarri, whose biggest worry is probably the lack of goals being scored by his strikers.

Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling glided past their rivals as Manchester City had a routine 2-0 win at home to Fulham, with Sterling and Kun Aguero amongst the goals for City, who now have to win away to Hoffenheim before a trip to Anfield next weekend.

Harry Kane warmed up for Barcelona's visit to Wembley with two goals as Tottenham won 2-0 away to Huddersfield, who never looked like getting anything from the game and go into October without a win this season.

Cardiff fans mocked Burnley keeper, Joe Hart telling him he was "England's number four" during their match on Sunday. Hart had the last laugh however, dominating his penalty area as Burnley made it two wins from two games to climb up to mid-table, while Cardiff are above Huddersfield only on goal average.

There are rumors of a takeover in the air at Newcastle, but if Mike Ashley does step down as owner, it will still be too late to see any new arrivals before January at a club that currently lacks the class to survive.

Jamie Vardy and the excellent Harry Maguire scored the goal which saw Leicester City conquer St James' Park and pile the pressure on Rafael Benitez, whose popularity is just beginning to wane with the Newcastle faithful.

Arsenal's veteran keeper, Petr Cech was forced out of his side's 2-0 win over Watford through a hamstring strain just before halftime to allow summer signing Bernd Leno to finaly make his debut.

Leno said afterwards he would "now have the chance" to show his quality, while two late goals allowed Arsenal to make it 7 wins from 7 games in all competitions and continue with improvement under Unai Emery.
